About Me
Dr. Camins is a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Missouri, offering a range of clinical and forensic services in-person and by telehealth across the Midwest. Dr. Camins is one of under 400 individuals across the United States Board Certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in Forensic Psychology. He is currently serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Counseling Psychology at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Camins has previously worked as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and as a Clinical Psychologist at Carle Health. His past duties included training and supervision of psychiatry residents, psychological assessment, psychotherapy, forensic assessment, research, teaching, and forensic curriculum development. His other prior academic affiliations have included The College of New Jersey, William Patterson University, Eastern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, and University of Illinois at Springfield.
Dr. Camins is independently licensed as a psychologist in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa. He also has the required Illinois Sex Offender Evaluator (SOE) license, which permits him to conduct psychosexual evaluations in the state. He is a holder of the PSYPACT Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology which allows him to provide clinical and forensic services by telehealth across 39 States (https://psypact.org/mpage/psypactmap).
Dr. Camins earned dual bachelors degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology from the University of New Haven. He subsequently received a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Towson University. While in Maryland, he worked with the Office of the Public Defender. He received a second masters degree and a doctorate of philosophy (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University.
Dr. Camins completed his predoctoral internship at the Memphis VA Medical Center and went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship in forensic psychology at Mendota Mental Health Institute and Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center. His clinical experiences have included outpatient community mental health, juvenile probation, state psychiatric hospitals, county jails, state prisons, schools, and VA medical centers.
